Deutsche Bank Championships – Our Picks & Lineup

We’re back this week after a rough outing (I’m sure Jordan Spieth found it rough too…).  Our picks were mostly disasters and we didn’t fare too well in the tournaments.

This week, we’re at the Deutsche Bank Championships with the top 100 ranked PGA tour golfers in the world for the 2nd round in the playoffs.  We still have a cut this week for the top 70 (and ties) so be aware of that when creating your lineups.

As always, the salary information used is from DraftKings, if you don’t have an account, sign up here.

In addition, the statistics and betting odds used to generate my projections are found on the PGA Tour website (www.pgatour.com) and Paddy Power (www.paddypower.com).

Stay tuned later this week for the second post containing the full projections.
  Our Favorites
·         Jason Day ($11,800) – Jason Day has 2 wins in a row and is the betting favorite as well as the best single round projected score.  I’m not sure I can expect another win out of him and he will most likely be owned by a huge percentage of the field but I do expect another strong showing from the Thunder from Down Under.
·         Bubba Watson ($9,800) – Bubba had a strong showing last week finishing 3rd and posting 99 fantasy points.  He’s only the 7th highest price and projects out to have the 4th highest score this weekend.  He’s a slam dunk here.
·         Brooks Koepka ($8,700) – Brooks got cut last weekend, finishing with only 23.5 fantasy points.  I expect some people to jump off the Koepka express for the Deutsche Bank.  He projects to have the 3rd highest round total and he’s the 8th ranked betting favorite this weekend even though he’s priced 12th overall.  He’s always been a great value pick and he remains so this week.
·         Will Wilcox ($6,800) – Will is my value pick of the week.  He’s low cost and he projects to score the 9th highest single round score in my model.  The betting odds have him placing top 40 so he should finish within the cut and, given his price, he’s a must-play.

Our Dislikes
·         Henrik Stenson ($10,500) – Henrik crushed last weekend, finishing 2nd and posting a 111.5 point score.  He’s the 4th highest betting favorite and the 5th highest salary on DraftKings.  However, Stenson rates to score the 13th highest single round score and the 7th highest total score.  I think you can find better value elsewhere.
·         Jim Furyk ($9,000) – Jim is coming off an 11th place finish with 85.5 fantasy points last week.  He’s a good golfer but he hasn’t posted an eagle in 2015.  He’s also below average in Par 5 Birdie or Better (38.5% versus 42.1%) and that hurts him.  This weekend he’s somewhat high priced and coming off of his finish last week, should be over-owned.  Stay cautious this weekend.
Our Lineup
This weekend, we’ll be entering the following lineup in the $1 PGA Short Game Championship on DraftKings
·         Jason Day
·         Brooks Koepka
·         Justin Thomas
·         Tony Finau
·         J.B. Holmes
·         Will Wilcox
Stay tuned later this week for full projections.  Good luck this weekend and ABI,

Rob
