Happy Canada Day

Happy Canada Day Everyone!

I am drafting one lineup for the PGA tour event this weekend: the Greenbrier Classic in White Sulphur Spring, West Virginia.  My model for this event is in a preliminary state. This is the first iteration and we’ll see how it goes.  I’ve taken a lot of stats from the PGA website (http://www.pgatour.com/stats.html) and tried to figure out which are predictors of success and which aren’t.

First, it is important to look at the scoring. I’m playing on DraftKings. If you want to play – sign up at this link - https://www.draftkings.com/r/TheConductor44.

The scoring can be found at this link - https://www.draftkings.com/help/pga

The scoring breaks down into a couple categories
·        Per Hole Scoring
·        Tournament Finish
·        Streaks & Bonuses

So far I’ve broken out a few important stats for the Per Hole Scoring.
·        Par 3, 4 & 5 Birdie or Better Leaders
·        Par 4 & 5 Eagle Leaders
·        Birdie to Bogey Ratio

These translate pretty easily into an expected fantasy value per par 3, 4 & 5 hole, which—if we look at the course—translates into a fantasy value per round.

For the Tournament Finish, I’ve used the Vegas odds to dictate the finishes.  As all bettors know, Vegas wasn’t built on winners and they know more than we do, so I’ll defer to them.

As for the other streaks & bonuses scoring, I haven’t quite figured out how to score it yet.  I will dig more into the stats on the PGA website later on.

I’m still looking for more predictors of success in golf, so if anyone has any ideas or comments, feel free to shoot me a message or post a reply on this blog.  I look forward to interacting with you.

Always be Innovating,
Rob
